เซลล์มักเรียงต่อกันเป็นเส้นสั้นๆ หรืออยู่เดี่ยวๆ ประกอบด้วยเซลล์รูปรีจนถึงรูปไข่ ซึ่งมีปลายทั้งสองด้านเท่ากันจนถึงรูปเรือเมื่อมองจากด้านวาล์ว แต่เมื่อมองจากด้านเกอเดิลเซลล์จะงอหรือโค้งตามแกนยาวของเซลล์ ลักษณะของฟรัสตูลทั้งสองฟรัสตูลไม่เหมือนกัน ฟรัสตูลบนนูนและมีราฟีเทียม ส่วนฟรัสตูลล่างเว้าและมีราฟีจริงซึ่งมีแต่ปุ่มกลางหรือเซ็นทรัลโนดูล แต่ไม่มีปุ่มขั้วซึ่งอยู่ปลายเส้นราฟี
